About me

Who am I?

Hoi!

I am Wout Kommer — designer, builder, and creative mind on a mission to rethink how we interact with the materials around us.

I co-founded KarTent, where we designed 100% cardboard tents for festivals, tackling the problem of leftover waste in a fun and unexpected way. What started as a wild idea turned into a Europe-wide project, reaching thousands of festivalgoers on over 400 festivals.

I believe that the way we view and use materials needs to change — not just in theory, but in practice. That’s why I work at the intersection of education, design, and practical execution. I like the Rotterdam ‘Niet lullen maar poetsen’ mentality!

Nature

Whenever possible, I like to take hikes, go climbing or cycling or spend time in the nature in other ways. It has a healing effect on my mind!

Storytelling

How can we change something to be more than just the hard facts? I believe storytelling is a key tool to get people to move and act.

Social

Living in the Wielewaal and witnessing the slow and steady destruction of an entire community has shaped me personally to cherish social themes.

Greece

μιλάω ελληνικά! Through personal endeavors, Greece became like a second home to me.
